Originally this building was the schoolhouse for District #2 (on Burpee Hill), built in 1820. It was later moved to Otterville and used as a workshop. Bud Lauridsen purchased it and reassembled it on his property on Knight's Hill to be used as an antique shop. Mrs. Sally Phillips of Salem, MA and New London bought it for the Historical Society. Money was raised for its relocation, and in 1977 it was moved onto a new foundation at the NLHS Historical Village. The interior has been modeled after the Sturbridge Village Country Store. In the winter of 1982, shelves and counters and a front porch were built. A railing was added to outline the area which is the storekeeper's office.

In 1984, the store was named after three local storekeepers of earlier times. The same year, the store was dedicated to Mildred (Crockett) Tunis and Bud Lauridsen, two longtime NLHS members and supporters.
