This outbuilding for the Pleasant Street Schoolhouse performed a dual role. One side of the structure contains a two-stall outhouse while the other side provides covered storage for firewood used for heating the Schoolhouse in winter.
Between the Privy / Woodshed and the General Store is a millstone, which has been converted to a hitching post. Repainted several times over the years, the face of the millstone says 'Hitch to the {picture of U.S. Flag}, {picture of Uncle Sam} will hold your horses.' This millstone was originally located on Seamans Road, at the home of Marion Little (Charles Shepard's elder daughter), then moved to the home of her son, Arthur Little, on Barrett Road. When the Littles sold their Barrett Road home, the millstone was given to the New London Historical Society.
