This chaise was owned and used in New London by Joseph Colby and later his son, Anthony, Governor of New Hampshire in 1849. It was restored at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, in 1936, and shown by Colby Junior College on a number of occasions before Dr. Mather Cleveland gave it to the Society in 1969. The chaise was conserved in 2002.
