This is an example of a utility vehicle used commercially throughout New England in the early 20th century. Owned by Ervin Edmunds, a New London native who operated a general store for many years at the intersection of Main and Pleasant Streets, it was used for business, hence the words neatly lettered on the sides: "Ervin P. Edmunds, Groceries". (Since Ervin's father was an ornamental painter, it seems quite likely that John Edmunds did this lettering.)
